Wellness Challenge Grants

As announced at the 2017 Health Summit, LiveWell Lancaster County in partnership with the Central Penn Business Group on Health is offering two (2) Wellness Challenge Grants to organizations interested in either improving the health of the community they serve or their workforce, but lacking in funds to see their ideas into fruition.

The partnership will provide a total of two $2,500 grants to a community organization and to a small employer with less than 75 employees to support community and workplace initiatives to help reduce stress and promote wellbeing.

Collaboration and innovation are encouraged to enhance the impact of programing. We hope that the 2017 Health Summit sparked some creative solutions and we look forward to your stress-busting innovative ideas. 2017 Well Workplace Awards

What are the Well Workplace Awards?

The Lancaster County Well Workplace Award seeks to recognize companies who have taken steps toward creating a culture of health at their workplace.  The Lighten Up Lancaster County Coalition, in partnership with the Central Penn Business Group on Health and LiveWELL, annually honors Lancaster County companies that have adopted initiatives and policies to keep their employees in the best possible health.  The goal of this award is to highlight the most effective, comprehensive and innovative wellness program in order to share those ideas with others and to recognize our local leaders.

Why Should One Apply?

This award program also aims to help employers improve their worksite wellness programs.  To apply for the award, your business is asked to complete the Worksite Health ScoreCard, a comprehensive assessment tool provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) that will help you compare your current programs against best practices and guide you towards the most important improvements you can make to improve your employees' well-being.  The ScoreCard allows you to track your progress and compare to other worksites nationally.

Who Can Apply?

Public or private organizations that are headquartered in or within 3 miles of Lancaster County and have employee wellness programs in place during the past twelve months may apply.

Employers who are headquartered outside of Lancaster County may still apply if they maintain a satellite office within Lancaster County and have at least 100 employees living in Lancaster County. Employers who meet this qualification will compete in the award’s size-category based on the entire organization’s workforce.

Company Size

Depending on their number of employees, companies will be placed into one of two groups from which their Well Workplace Award applications and wellness programs will be evaluated (Large or Small). We understand that companies of different sizes will have different access to resources that they are able to utilize for the implementation of wellness programs. For this reason, in an effort to maintain equity, companies will be evaluated in comparison to companies of similar size.

A large business is defined as a company having more than 250 employees, while a small business has less than or equal to 249 employees.

Both categories of companies will use the same application.

Criteria for Judging

Applicants should demonstrate honesty when completing the Centers for Disease Control Worksite Wellness scorecard.

Application Deadline, Cost and Acknowledgement

The application is March 24, 2017. Although applications can be submitted at any time before this date, appliers are encouraged to take as much time as necessary to be thorough in their applications. There is no cost to apply for the Well Workplace Award

An acknowledgement of receipt will be sent for timely submissions. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.

Evaluation and Selection Process

Applications will be reviewed by the Well Workplace Award Committee. Applicants should complete the basic information about their company as well as submit the final scorecard for evaluation. Additionally, the LightenUp Coalition is interested in receiving nominations that demonstrate either innovation related to engaging employees around all aspects of health - obesity, tobacco, and mental health or impact that these programs have had on their workforce. Please complete the additional sections of the forms if your business would like to be considered for the Impact Award or the Innovation award.

As an annual award, only those initiatives and programs that have been planned and implemented since July 1, 2016 should be used in this application. While other programs that existed before this date can be spoken about in the application as supplemental material to provide the evaluator with context, the new initiatives should be emphasized.

Decisions will be made by the Well Workplace Award Committee. Decisions of this group will be final.

Announcement of Winners

Award winners will be announced at the 2017 Health Summit on May 11, 2017 at the Lancaster Convention Center. The awardees will be recognized by Lighten Up Lancaster, the Tobacco-Free Coalition of Lancaster County, LiveWell Lancaster County Coalition and the Central Penn Business Group on Health during the breakfast. Every company will receive their status and a certificate highlighting their accomplishments.

The four achievement levels, in rank order (highest to lowest), are:

Platinum represents the pinnacle of results-oriented worksite wellness programming. The Platinum Award is granted to organizations forging new ground by linking health promotion objectives to business outcomes.

Gold  recognizes  organizations  developing  comprehensive  programs producing results. These programs are a strategic and integral part of the business.

Silver  recognizes  organizations  expanding  programming  and  aligning their efforts with the organization's priorities.

Bronze  recognizes  organizations  meeting  the  minimum  criteria  by demonstrating a solid foundation for success.

Honorable Mention recognizes organizations that are working towards increasing their efforts in employee wellness.

Five awards will be given to the top companies in each category:

Large Business (> 250 employees)
Platinum Well Workplace Award
Gold Well Workplace Awardd

Small Business (≤ 249 employees)
Platinum Well Workplace Award
Gold Well Workplace Award

Innovation Award (any size employer)
Demonstrating Innovation in all aspects of health - obesity, tobacco and mental health

Impact Award (any size employer)
This award is to highlight a small or large company that can show measurable results (for example: health outcomes, cost savings, productivity or employee engagement) from workplace wellness initiatives.

The awardees and evaluation levels will also be announced to the local news media, on the Lighten Up Lancaster and Business Group on Health websites.

The award recognition and achievement status is valid for 1 year, at which time companies must reapply.
